Tan Kok Hiang is a Founding Director of Forum Architects Pte Ltd, a firm based in Singapore since 1994. Kok Hiang believes that architecture has the potential to affect everyday life for the better and to lift the human spirit through well designed spaces and elevating ‘beauty to its rightful place.
A good portion of the firm’s works has been on educational buildings and other civic projects although Forum has designed hotels and commercial buildings across many locations in Asia and beyond.
Kok Hiang was conferred Designer of the Year at the President*s Design Award in 2014 and his firm has won more than 49 local and international awards in the past twenty five years. Amongst these, Yale-NUS won the Chicago Athenaeum Award in 2016 and Jurong Town Hall won the URA Architectural Heritage Awards for Restoration in 2018.
Kok Hiang obtained his architecture degrees from the National University of Singapore and in addition to running Forum Architects, is also currently a Professor of Architecture (Practice) at his alma mater. Kok Hiang also chairs the Preservation of Sites and Monuments Advisory Board, helming a subject that is close to his heart.
He also served on the design advisory panels for the Housing Development Board, URA Orchard Road Projects, URA Ponggol District and the Advisory Board of the National University of Singapore.
