P*DA 2016 Recipients’ Forum: Renew and Rejuvenate by Design
The 11th year of Presidents Designs Award Recipients’ Forum 2016 was held on the 16th December 2016 at the National Design Centre, Level 2 Auditorium. The Award recognises Singapore’s design talents at the highest level, and the Recipients’ Forum is a platform for the latest crop of recipients to share their winning works and design stories with the public. This year’s Forum was organised in two sessions, featuring eight President Design Award recipients’ insights.
Recipients presented projects to show how design breathes new life into old ideas. From rebranding strategies to reinventing products, participants were treated to the designers’ sharing of their philosophies and processes.
The session kicked off with the team from Bynd Artisan and &Larry Pte Ltd, as they shared their viewpoints on their new brand identity and how the design empowers the brand and leads the business to new opportunities. who shared their design journey. Followed by Lead designer Mr Joseph Lum from NSP Tech, highlighting the Design of the Year, SAFETICET which led him to re-engineer the blood-testing lancet to promote more self-testing amongst diabetics patients, and thus save more lives.
Lead architect Mr Chan Soo Khian from SCDA Architects also shared how he revamped an old school building into a contemporary creative hub which we all know now as the National Design Centre.
The session wrapped up on an interesting note with Ms Jane Tang from the Samsung Electronics Product Innovation Team; who spoke about the rigorous ethnographic research and prototyping process behind the reinvention of a washing machine, resulting in the Samsung AddWash.
Attendees had the opportunity to engage in a lively Q & A with the designers on a panel discussion walked away with the limited copy of the latest edition of the Singapore’s President Design Award 2016 publication!
