Chan Soo Khian

Soo Khian is a practicing architect based in Singapore. He was born in Penang, Malaysia in 1962. He is the founding principal and design director of SCDA Architects Pte Ltd, a multi-disciplinary firm engaging in the practice of Architecture, Interior, Landscape and Product Design. Soo Khian obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Washington University and Master of Architecture degree at Yale University. While at the Yale School of Art and Architecture, Soo Khian studied sculpture, painting and photography.
Soo Khian was the recipient of the inaugural President’s Design Award and the Singapore Designer of the Year in 2006. He was also the recipient of the SIA-Getz Architecture Prize for Emergent Architecture in Asia, 2006. SCDA was awarded the Royal Institute of British Architects Worldwide Award for the Lincoln Modern in 2003 and One KL in 2012. In addition several of his projects have been presented the Chicago Aethaenum International awards from 2006 to 2010. In 2003, SCDA Architects Pte Ltd was selected by Architectural Record as one of the design vanguard firms reshaping the globe.
In addition to professional practice, Soo Khian has taught in international architectural schools in Asia, America and Europe. He is a member of the International Advisory Council for Asia for Washington University and is an external examiner of National University in Singapore.
