‘‘The bridge is an example of a design where the team made a serious attempt, first, to try to understand the nature of the design issues and challenges and strive to find the most appropriate design tool to address the issues and to meet the challenges. In this particular case, we found a good match between design need and mathematical formula for these needs and challenges. Further, in the process of design, the over-riding concern among us is how our design can improve the environment as well as the lives of others, and less about creating a statement. Nevertheless, we are happy that this design turned out to be quite a statement which people respond to warmly. We believe that, with this design approach, the bridge will remain relevant for a long time functionally and aesthetically.’’
