P*DA at London’s D&AD Creative Festival 2019!

P*DA has made another international appearance, this time exhibiting in the very heart of London!

In partnership with D&AD, we took stage in The Old Truman Brewery, featuring the latest crop of P*DA 2018 recipients in conjunction with this year’s D&AD award winners. This creative showcase was part of the D&AD Creative Festival that took place from 21-23 May earlier this year, celebrating the world’s best in craft, creativity and culture. The festival theme on ‘Shaping the Future’ strongly echoes with P*DA’s emphasis on celebrating impactful designs that transforms societies, advocating for design to make a difference within our larger global community.

Apart from introducing our 11 recipients from P*DA 2018, the exhibition guides you through the processes behind the winning projects, from ideation to completion. We aimed to generate new conversations through a series of visual storytelling and participatory activity, where we involved the public to pin their favourite P*DA projects up on a board.

D&AD also invited Larry Peh from &Larry to deliver a talk on the final day, closing the creative festival on a high with a full-house! Larry Peh, our winner for P*DA Designer of the Year in 2014 and Design of the Year in 2016, spoke about “Redesigning Traditions for Tomorrow” – preserving heritage brands for the future. Drawing from some of his unconventional collaborations with home-grown brands like Tong Heng, Bynd Artisan, and Direct Funeral, he demonstrated how local businesses can stay globally relevant without comprising on their soul. “We march backward into the future,” he revealed.

Apart from the support from DSG, Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and D&AD London, this exhibition was also made possible with special thanks to the creative collaboration between Modular Unit (Singapore) and Mobile Studio Architects (London), directed by our Design Associates based in London. At the core of such outreach events is our ambition to elevate Singapore’s design on global platforms, facilitating cross-pollination of ideas and seeding potential international collaborations for our designers.

The P*DA x D&AD showcase ended on a note of great camaraderie at a Thank You lunch gathering with senior executives of D&AD, Dsg representatives and associates, where new plans were hatched for the coming year – more joint presentations and events that continue to push our key message: Design transforms our lives for the better.
